So as you know I’ve recently came back from a holiday from Rhodes Island, in Greece. It was my second time visiting this beautiful island, because the first time I went I instantly fell in love with it, so of course I had to go back. I would definitely recommend it, so I wanted to let you know what kind of stuff there is to do in Rhodes talking you through what I did during my time there!
Relaxing days and night life
We spent the first day there just settling in to the hotel, enjoying some time on the pool side, exploring the part of Rhodes we were staying in, and having a walk around the shops. On the first day you don’t want to burn yourself out too much doing stuff so it’s nice to just relax and get yourself into that holiday mode. When it came to night time, the night life in Rhodes is always really good, there’s never a restaurant too far away, or a club so you can go have a dance, a shisha bar, or karaoke. The night life caters for all ages and all kinds of people. And if all else fails, the hotels usually do hold some form of entertainment on a night time, you could always go have a game of snooker or a few cocktails.
Rhodes old town
On the second day we were eager to go down to Rhodes Old Town, it’s usually only a bus ride away or a boat ride, depending on what you’re feeling! So in the morning we had breakfast and then worked on our tans for a little by the pool, as the old town is more of an afternoon/evening thing, and then we headed down to the bus stop and into the old town. The old town is absolutely beautiful and one of my favourite places. There’s so many amazing shops, restaurants with incredible views and places to have a drink, so many beautiful buildings and such a great vibe there. You will spend a good 4-6 hours there.
Beach trips and water sports
So on a few days we actually had storms, which is unusual for it to storm especially in June time! But we didn’t let that stop us. We went down to the local beach to do water sports! You can’t beat water sports, they’re so much fun, and there’s so many to choose from, jet skiing, parasailing, the ringos, the flying fish. You name it! After that we went snorkelling in the sea, and yes it was tipping it down with rain so we did look a little crazy. But it was so much fun.. the rain added to the fun of it.
On day 4 we went to Lindos. Lindos is absolutely breath taking. It’s the cutest place, there’s a variety of cute little shops which are great to have a mooch around. I could spend hours walking around the shops and not even buy anything! I love looking at the clothes, the artwork and the jewellery. There’s so many great Greek restaurants with incredible views and amazing food. Then you can head up to the acropolis of Lindos, and see the ancient ruins, with breathtaking views surrounding you. You can spend a good 2 hours walking up there and taking in the views at the top, sea surrounding you, and the houses spread out for miles. Once we had seen everything, we headed down to the beach there. The sea was magnificent, it was warm and shallow which is perfect for us not so confident swimmers! (Me) After that we got the coach back to the hotel it’s about a 40 minute drive to where we were staying, and went straight to bed since we were pretty tired from all the walking and exploring.
In Rhodes, there’s so many different kinds of boat rides. You can go on a boat with a glass bottom to see the sea creatures, fishing boats, snorkelling boats, or party boats. We went on an amazing 4 hour boat ride. We went to the top floor of the boat and lounged around on some deck chairs, cracked open a few beers, the boat held a BBQ and they served some amazing food. Kebab skewers with Greek salad and garlic bread, free shots and free glasses of white wine, it was so good! The boat stopped off at little bays, and stayed there for a period of time each bay. You can go into the sea and snorkel during this time, or just simply lye down and soak up the sun and relax. I would definitely recommend going on one of the boat rides. They play music in the background, and there’s such a good vibe.
Now this place I would definitely recommend, it was absolutely incredible and such a cute night. It’s based in Faliraki, and it’s an observatory. You walk in and there’s a cute little café, you can order some drinks and food and wait for your slot to go in to the pod, where they show you the stars and planets through a big telescope. It’s in such a cute location, it’s so peaceful, and you really do see some breath taking views in the telescope. We even managed to get a picture of the moon through the telescope. It’s a family run business and you can really see how passionate they are about what they do. The owner will give you a demonstration on the planets and stars, you take turns looking through the telescope and there’s even a little museum in the outside area. After we had looked through the telescope we went back to the café and had some more drinks.
One night we decided to explore around our hotel, and noticed a big hill which was quite high up, so we decided to climb it, to watch the sunset. Although we were pretty breathless by the time we got to the top, we had some incredible views and watching the sunset was perfect. (Especially with a beer in hand) Rhodes in general is a beautiful island, and it really is worth just going off and having a walk to explore. There’s so much to see there, you won’t be disappointed.
Restaurants and food
The food in Greece is amazing. You will be amazed at the customer service and quality food at the restaurants. Do not forget to get yourself a gyros when you are over there, they are heaven in a pita! The food can be quite pricey in places like Rhodes old town and Lindos, but it doesn’t hurt to treat yourself, you are on holiday after all!
So, that was my trip to Rhodes in a nutshell, I would recommend this beautiful place 100%!
There’s so much to do, and it would suit everyone’s needs with what there is to do. I’ll definitely be going back, for the third time next year.
Where is your favourite place to go on holiday?!
Until the next post,
