Blogmas #13 – 5 Tips For Christmas Shopping

I think we can all agree that one of the most stressful things about Christmas is the shopping! Christmas can be a financial burden – shopping in the heaving aisles can be extremely stressful and you may find yourself just buying things just for the sake of it. I know I do anyway! Well I will rephrase that.. I have done in the past. Things have been completely this year. This year has been so much simpler and I am all ready for Christmas – my gifts are all wrapped and currently sitting in the front room ready for distribution.

So in this post I’ll be sharing my tips to make Christmas shopping as easy as possible.

1. Ask People What They Would Like

My first tip is simple – ask people what they need or would like! In the past years I’ve purchased gifts just for the sake of it, in hopes that they would like it. This year, everyone has provided me with a list of what they would like or things they really need which has made life so much easier.

2. Write Your Ideas Down

I love a good list – lists motivate me and I love to get my thoughts down on paper. At the start of December, I sit down and write a list of all the names of the people I’ll be getting gifts for and I will write down all of my ideas. Try writing a list and mark off the gifts you purchase as you go along.

3. Set A Budget For Yourself

My third tip is to set yourself a budget. You could set an overall budget or you could set a budget per person. Pick a budget which is manageable and works alongside your bills. Keep this budget in mind as you do your shopping.

4. Consider Making Your Own Gifts

I love homemade gifts – they’re so thoughtful because more time and effort has been put into them. It’s also more cost effective if you’re looking at a tighter budget.

There are some great ideas for DIY gifts. You could make stir in hot chocolate spoons, bake shortbread, make your own candles, bath bombs or a home made Christmas wreath / garland. You could even put together a hamper, which is also an extremely thoughtful gift. You can click here to view my Christmas hamper ideas.

5. Shop Around

My last tip is to shop around. Broaden your horizon when it comes to gift shopping. Don’t just stick to your high street shops, look online, check out different small businesses on Etsy and do some research. I love scrolling through Etsy as there’s not only lovely, thoughtful gifts to scroll through but it also gives me inspiration for present ideas.

Remember to also support small and local businesses this Christmas.

Summary Of Blogmas #13 – 5 Tips For Christmas Shopping

So those were my 5 tips on Christmas shopping. The biggest thing I’d like you to take away from this post is that Christmas isn’t about presents! It’s about family, friends, good food, relaxing and feel gratitude for the people around you. It’s about presence not presents. We can’t deny that Christmas has become another holiday for people to consume and you can’t escape it, but the most important thing is to enjoy yourself – pour yourself a glass of Baileys on ice, sit back, relax and get some gift ideas together. It’s the thought that counts.
