Blogmas #16 – Reflecting On 2020

I feel like 2020 is a really difficult subject because there has been so much loss, worry, isolation and suffering. It’s been a difficult year for so many – people have lost their jobs, businesses, people have been separated from their loved ones, weddings have been unable to take place, funerals haven’t been able to take place properly and so many people have lost their lives. In some way or another, everyone has been affected by COVID.

I wanted to create a post to focus on some positivity and to look back on things I‘m grateful for because I know a lot of people are going to go into the New Year saying how much they’re glad to see the back of 2020. Which I don’t blame them at all, a part of me thinks the same but a part of me is also very grateful for small moments that have taken place this year, especially as I always try to focus all of my energy into the present moment.

Playing Guitar With My Dad

My Dad taught me how to play guitar from the age of 7. As I got older I went off playing, I lost my love for it. I feel like guitar is the biggest bond me and my Dad have so I’ve loved spending more time at home being able to focus on playing again. I’ve really re-discovered my love for music.

Many hours during lockdown was spent in our music room playing along to songs and learning songs together. We don’t get much quality together so I’m really grateful I’ve got to spend more time with him, getting lost in music together.

Spending Quality Time With My Mum

Another thing I am very grateful for is spending time with my Mum. Being able to help her around the house, having a drink together on Friday nights and cooking dinner for her. I don’t get to spend much quality time with my Mum either as she works a lot so I’ve really enjoyed spending more time with her.

Working From Home

I’ve really loved working from home – It’s great to not have to get up early, get showered and dressed and then face the dread of morning traffic. I love the fact I can get up 5 minutes before my start time. I don’t have to get ready to the extent I do when I’m in the office – I can wear my pyjamas all day if I really wanted to!

Working from home is so convenient, I can cook when I want and I can watch TV as a work. On top of it all – I get so much more work done!

Enjoying The Slower Pace Of Life

I don’t know about you but I feel like the pace of life has really slowed down which I’ve really enjoyed.

Spending More Time On My Hobbies

My New Years resolution for 2020 was to make more time to do the things I love. I never felt like I had enough time do more of the things I loved and at one point it was making me very miserable.

I love writing, drawing, painting, playing music, creating music, sewing and just being creative in general. I have had plenty of time this year to work on all of these things – which is how I found my love for music again and even started a guitar blog!

I also love playing The Sims, it’s literally self care for me as it takes my mind off the real world for a few hours. I’ve managed to get in plenty of hours of playing The Sims this year!

Started Having Greek Lessons

Another New Years resolution for me this year was to learn a new language. After visiting Greece every single year for the last 5 years, I thought it would be appropriate to actually learn Greek. Myself and my Fiancé have been having weekly lessons from a native Greek speaker and we can’t wait to surprise our friends in Greece when we visit next.

We Booked Our Wedding

Back in September we went to view a few different venues and we met with a wedding coordinator. It was so much fun looking around and starting to plan.

We have officially booked our wedding date for September 2022!

I’m Going To Be An Auntie Again!

We found out that there’s going to be a little baby in the family again, which we are all so excited about!

I Got A Job As A Guitar Teacher

After working so hard and putting all of my hours into playing guitar, I was offered a job as a guitar teacher in a local music shop. This is pretty much one of my dream jobs and I never thought I was good enough to teach people, so this has been a dream come true for me!

Caught Up On All Of The Seasons I’ve Been Wanting To Watch

I’ve been wanting to watch so many different series for so long but I’m always too busy to sit down and really get into one. This year I’ve had the time to watch so many! I’ve pretty sure I’ve watched half of Netflix by now.

I’ve watched all of The Vampire Diaries, New Girl, Prison Break, The Haunting Of Bly Manor, Orange Is The New Black, The Fallen and I’m currently watching Breaking Bad which I am absolutely loving!

Summary Of Blogmas #16 – Reflecting On 2020

So those are all the things I am so grateful of this year. It seems like a lot and looking at that list you would think I’ve had the best year ever. Don’t get me wrong there have been very low points for me too, but but honestly I just try to see the positive in every single situation.

What are some positive things that have happened to you this year? Share them in the comments and let’s try to make light of a bad year!

See you on the next post,

Calluna X
