DIY ‘Clueless’ Style Yellow Tartan Skirt
My latest project is this yellow Clueless style tartan skirt.. which has probably been the most complex but favourite garment I have made so far! I love this style of skirt and I’m so happy with how it turned out. I’m also in the process of making a matching top.. but unfortunately I ran out of yellow thread!
I started by cutting all of my pieces, using an existing skirt as a template for my sizing.
I cut out one large piece of fabric for the back of the skirt, a smaller and larger piece of fabric for the front to create the split effect, a long piece of fabric for the waist band, and several small pieces of fabric for the belt loop holes. I also used a yellow zipper.. which I later had to change to a black zipper as I had ruined my yellow zipper and didn’t have any yellow zips spare! I think this skirt would have looked better with a yellow zip as opposed to the black.
Once all my pieces had been cut it was time to start sewing.
I used the longest straight stitch on the waistband to gather the fabric and add the frill effect and I sewed the belt loops by hand as they are quite awkward to sew on a machine.
I was really happy with the finish on my sewing, especially the hem as it turned out so neat!
And this was the finishing product…
I added a chain and a belt to finish the look of the skirt. I was planning on making a fabric belt for this skirt, but I was happy with how my leather belt looked instead.
I styled this skirt with a black top, my Jadon Dr Martens and a black fur coat and was excited to wear this to go shopping.
What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
I’ll see you all on the next post!
