As someone who has been growing their hair for years, going to the hairdressers is a daunting trip. When I do go, I have a dry cut and I ask them to take the smallest amount off. I have a dry cut because your hair shrinks as it dries so I didn’t want to lose too much length. I also got my hair cut every six months. Although I took these measures to help my hair grow, I did more damage than good. My hair was dry, brittle and broken at the ends.

I thought enough was enough and bit the bullet. I booked in to get a decent hair cut and a colour as my hair had faded from box dye I had used last year. My roots were also growing through and they looked a really dull colour.

I had created so much damage by taking measures to avoid having my hair cut that even the hairdresser commented on how bad my ends were. My ends were so bad that I had to have quite a bit of length off. (Honestly, it wasn’t much, but to me.. every inch is precious!)

I asked for a dark brown colour, long layers and a side fringe to be cut in, to add some shape around my face. 4 hours later and my hair looked fresh and healthy. It hadn’t looked this good for a long time!

I don’t know why I had avoided the hairdressers so much. It’s such a relaxing experience to have your hair washed and styled for you. The scalp massage is heavenly!

I realised that I have been growing my hair for 4 years now and honestly the length doesn’t reflect this. A big part of this is due to the fact I avoided having my hair cut. Regular, small trims are a must when growing your hair long, as your hair will snap off if you don’t get those nasty split ends cut regularly. I am now going to get a regular trim every 12 weeks and am already booked in for my next appointment. Hopefully I will start to see some growth results.

Due to COVID, certain safety measures were taken. I had to wear a face mask, the hairdresser wore a face shield. The apron was disposable and the staff were not allowed to offer you a drink or have the air con on. Luckily I picked one of the hottest days of the year to have my hair cut..

I’m really happy with how it turned out.
